STEAM Pathways

Mission Statement: Cultivating curiosity, competence, confidence, and character in City Heights’ students through experiential learning opportunities.

What is the STEAM Pathways program?

STEAM Pathways (SP) is a series of hands-on learning experiences for 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students at Clark and Wilson Middle Schools organized by San Diego
learning institutions.

A continuation of School in the Park, SP engages students through a blending of informal and formal learning, career exposure, and authentic connections with professionals. SP includes an NGSS-based curriculum that is collaboratively planned between teachers and local partners.

How does it work?

Education coordinators from partner institutions and teachers from each school meet to plan curriculum. Priorities during the planning process include student engagement, thematic connection between experiences, vertical alignment, and logistics.

STEAM Pathways collaborates with the following institutions:

  • San Diego Air & Space Museum

  • Birch Aquarium

  • Fleet Science Center

  • Ocean Discovery Institute

  • San Diego Natural History Museum

  • Salk Institute for Biological Sciences

  • San Diego Zoo
